Staff & Families
The Rensselaer Libraries offer a variety of services to staff members and their families. If you have questions that are not answered here, please use the Contact Us link.
The Folsom and Architecture Libraries are open to members of the Rensselaer community and the general public, however the doors to Folsom are always locked. The Greene building, which houses the Architecture Library, is locked after 5pm. Those with a current Rensselaer ID can use it to electronically unlock the doors. Others can use the intercom to ask to be let in. Those without a Rensselaer ID may be asked for photo identification.
Note: Spouses and dependents of all Rensselaer faculty, staff and students may obtain Rensselaer identification cards from the ID Desk located into the Rensselaer Union. Dependents must be at least 14 years of age to obtain an ID.
For information about access for people with disabilities, go to our Users With Disabilities page.
Rensselaer Staff and families are permitted to borrow books and other items under the same rules as Rensselaer faculty and students. For detailed information about Borrowing Privileges, see our Borrowing FAQ. Popular books for leisure reading can be found in the Class of '96 Reading Room.
The Libraries' Interlibrary Loan service allows you to request books and other documents that are not available from our library. Journal articles that can be delivered electronically are often free, but you will be charged for books or other items that have to be shipped. To register for this service, use the following link, ILLiad and select "New User."
Most of our electronic resources are restricted to Rensselaer faculty, students, and staff by licensing agreements.
Use of our electronic resources for commercial purposes is forbidden. Violation of this rule may lead to loss of library privileges.
Campus wireless service is restricted to currently enrolled students, faculty and staff of Rensselaer.
