Accessing Resources from Off-Campus
Because most library databases, ejournals and ebooks are restricted to Rensselaer computer addresses (i.e., they are "IP-restricted"), off-campus users who use an independent service provider (ISP), e.g. Road Runner or Earthlink, must authenticate in order to prove that they are legitimate users of Rensselaer resources.
Users are no longer required to make any changes to their browsers in order to access these resources. All that is required is that the user have a valid RCS ID and password .
- The VPN does not provide access to library resources, and may complicate efforts to connect. If you are having trouble you may want to disconnect the VPN client.
- It is best to connect to resources through the library website, rather than bookmarking them. This will guarantee that you go through the proper authentication channels.
Note: You may see a browser security warning when accessing certain library resources from off-campus. Get more information and view a list of affected resources.
If you have any questions, or any problems authenticating, please contact Library Support.
