1. Find in library catalog

Type: pivot (in Search box)

Select title from the drop-down labelled "catalog"

2. Click on Sign Up (upper right)

3. Fill out Pivot Account

Select Rensselaer
Create own password
Your RPI email address is your Pivot User ID
Look for verification email
Click on Confirm

4. Click on Log In (upper right)

Username: email address
Password: [create your own]

5. Claim Profile (upper right)

Your name (upper right in black - not hyperlinked)
Click on: link Claim Profile
Click on: "This is me" button
If there are no results click on Suggest a Scholar (left of the results list)
Prompted to confirm your email address
Look for verification email and click on Confirm
Log out of everything & then log back in

6. Updating Profile

Click on : Hyperlinked name (on upper right)
Click on: Update your Profile (on right)
Another verification email (this one takes up to 1 week)

7. Click on Hyperlinked Name

At the Profiles tab look at: Funding Opportunites (also available at Advisor - top of Home page)

Look at: the deadlines on the right.

Sorted by: Sponsor deadline

8. Click on an individual funding opportunity

Browse - click on full details link

Look at: potential collaborators

9. Click on Search on right

Unselect filters
Use Boolean & Truncation
Search terms: human computer interaction OR HCI AND memor*
Save to tracked list - get email update
Active list - most important, most critical
Tracked list - not critical but would like to keep an eye on

10. Click on Search on right

Click on sponsor
Type in NIH
Look at: Small Business Technology Transfer (NIA)
Look at: Division of Behavioral and Social Research
Save to: active list - get email update
Saved as important opportunity on homepage

11. Click on Search on right

Search for: global warming
Click on: Save your query (top middle of page)
Email - for new updated opps
Must provide a name for saved search
Click box: selected opps
Select Export
Select Excel

12. Click on Search on right

Search for: bioethic*
Click on: Student Writing Competition
Click on: Share with faculty (on right)
Type in name or email address
Click on: Share

13. Look for Keywords

Click on Search
Click on: Advanced Search (middle of page)
Scroll down - Click on: More Search Attributes
Click on: Keywords
Click on: Browse

14. Search for Research Collaborators

Select Profiles (upper left)
Click on: Advanced Search (under search box)
