Resource Experience for Teachers (RET)

I. Library Catalog

1.  Catalog lists the books, periodicals, government documents, and archives &
manuscript collections owned by the Libraries. The catalog does not provide access to
specific articles in journals, magazines and newspapers.

Reading the catalog:
Books from our library [get 3 week loan]
Due [date]  unavailable;
BILLED book is overdue BILLED AND PAID book may or may not be reordered
IN PROCESS book has been ordered, received and is awaiting cataloging
FOLSOM RESERVE request for book at circulation desk, can not be checked out( 1 hour  unless more time is requested by professor)
ARCH LIB Architecture Library; third floor of the Greene building
WEB RESOURCE electronic format; could be e-book
FOLSOM REFERENCE on the second floor, can not be checked out
FOLSOM ON ORDER book has been ordered, but hasn't arrived in library yet
Search for: "nuclear magnetic resonance" or NMR, select keyword
Search for: "electric circuit*", select keyword

II. Specific resources for your programs

1. Encyclopedias for overview, background and general understanding


Search for: "plant growth", select ALL - scroll down to bottom for images

2. Journal Articles using the following Databases:

A. EBSCOhost
ERIC – [use for journal articles - EJ; and documents such as disserations, conference papers, and reports -ED]
Professional Development Collection
Academic Search Premier
The above databases can be searched as a group using EBSCOhost.

Search: teach* (Title) (1st box)
light* (Title) (2nd box)
concept* (Abstract) (3rd box)

B.SPIE Digital Library
- Information on optics

Look for: "electric circuit", select Abstract/Title/Keyword - limit 2008 to present

C. Web of Science
- Used for any subject, especially useful for citation information

Look for: "plant experiment*" , select Title
Look for: journals that cited Prof. HL Ehrlich's article "Microbes and metals" in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology Dec. 1997.

D. Annual Reviews
- Synthesis of past primary research literature. Some disciplines have information back to the 1930's.

Look for: "plant growth", select Article Title
