WRIT 4410 & 6410 - Research Writing

I. Basics you need to know - the Foundations.

1.  Interlibrary Loan
Register to use ILL when you need resources (books, journal articles, conference
proceedings etc.) the library doesn‘t have.  Takes an average of 3 days.

2. Connect NY  look for books that we don’t have but are available through the
consortium and delivered to Folsom in three to four days.  Can use this system if we have a
book but it is checked out.


II. Specific resources for your class

1. Encyclopedias for overview, background and general understanding

Credo Reference (general dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, atlases)

Search for: "color theory"
Search for: "carbon nanotubes"

2. Journal Articles using the following Databases:

A. Academic Search Premier(Ebsco)
- Online journal index

Look for: environment*, [first box}
              economic* [second box]
              China [third]
select Abstract for each term - limit 2008 to present

B. Web of Science

Look for: journals that cited Prof. HL Ehrlich's article "Microbes and metals" in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology Dec. 1997.
Look for: "wind turbine*" , select Title - limit 2008 to present

C. Science Direct

Look for: heparin, select Title - limit 2008 to present

D. Inspec

Look for: "fuel cell*", select Title - limit 2008 to present
